Teflon™ AF is highly effective as a low-refractive index coating for optical devices and surfaces that are exposed to a wide temperature range ( for example, as an anti-reflective coating on automotive glass) or for devices used in chemically aggressive environments.
Teflon™ AF offers a high level of transmission across the spectrum from infrared through ultraviolet wavelengths. It can be used as a protective coating or as cladding for waveguides and optical fibers. It also performs well as a coating for electro-optical substrates such as quartz and glass, stainless steel, sapphire, and plastics.
Anti-reflective Coatings
Teflon™ AF can be used as an anti-reflective coating, offering equivalent or better performance (refractive index of 1.29) compared to many other materials. The advantages of Teflon™ AF for AR applications include its high efficiency, high-throughput process, and its ability to operate at low temperatures.
